The San Silvestro Archaeomineral Park

Just outside the center of Campiglia Marittima lies one of the most fascinating sites in the area: the San Silvestro Archaeomineral Park, which tells the story of centuries of mining activity, from the Etruscan era to the 20th century. Here, you can visit the Temperino Mine, a complex of tunnels used since Etruscan times, and travel through the Lanzi gallery on a tourist train leading to the Lanzi Valley and the San Silvestro Fortress, offering unique views of the mining landscape.

The park also preserves the medieval miners' village, where visitors can admire ancient bread ovens, mills, workshops, and original homes that illustrate the daily life of the workers of the time. For those wishing to delve deeper into the history and geology of the area, the park houses the Mineralogical and Archaeomineral Museum with historical artifacts and a large collection of local minerals, and at the Pozzo Earle, the Miners' Museum and the Museum of Mining Machines, which showcase techniques, tools, and machinery used over the centuries.

Palazzo Pretorio

Built in the 13th century, it overlooks the main square of the village. It is one of the oldest and most representative buildings of Campiglia Marittima. It housed the civil and judicial authorities and still preserves coats of arms, plaques, and historical inscriptions.

The Campiglia Fortress

It once dominated the surrounding territory and controlled trade routes. Today, imposing ruins remain along with a spectacular view of the Val di Cornia and the Tuscan Archipelago. Inside the fortress, there is also an exhibition path that tells the history of the village through artifacts and educational panels.

The Church of San Giovanni

Located just outside the walls, it is a Romanesque gem dating back to the 11th century. It is famous for the Sator Square, a palindromic inscription with a mysterious meaning that fascinates scholars and visitors alike. Outside, among the tombstones, one can breathe an ancient and peaceful atmosphere.

Parish of San Lorenzo

Built in the 1200s within the town walls, it is one of the most important places of worship in the village. The building preserves medieval architectural elements and Romanesque details that testify to the artistic richness of the era.

Castello Magona

Located outside the historic center, this elegant castle dates back to the 16th century and was expanded in the following centuries. It once belonged to the noble Magona family, linked to the local iron industry.

Today it has been converted into a hospitality venue, with beautiful gardens and refined interiors, visitable only for special events or by reservation. Perfect for those who love architecture, history, and enchanting places immersed in the Tuscan countryside.

Castello Bonaria

Once part of the village’s defensive system, it is not a historic site open to the public, but a modern private structure: here you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Tuscan coast, taste refined dishes in the panoramic restaurant, and discover local wines.
